Training
As members of the National Community Boat Association, we can offer the following accredited courses for canal boat handling and trip management.
Certificate in Community Boat Management (CCBM)
– Qualification to operate boats carrying up to 12 passengers on UK inland waterways.
– Covers boat handling, maintenance, group safety and welfare.
– 20 hours of training (can be in chunks to fit your needs).
– Endorsed by the Canal and Rivers Trust and Maritime Coastguard Agency.
– Some practical boat experience required.
– Minimum age 17 years.
– Discount available for youth organisation leaders.
Boat Handling Course (BHC)
– Designed for those with their own boats.
– Provides foundation skills to operate a boat safely on inland waterways.
– Two days of training (usually over a weekend).
– Training can be accredited towards CCBM Part 1.
– No previous experience necessary.
– Minimum age 14 years
Community Crew Course (CCC)
– Entry level course.
– Particularly suitable for the young and inexperienced.
– Qualification to crew boats carrying up to 12 passengers on UK inland waterways.
– Two days of training (usually over a weekend).
– Minimum age eight years.
Our highly experienced trainers make the training informative, practical and enjoyable. They have been assessed at courses run by the National Community Boats Associations (NCBA) and are supported by a Senior Trainer to ensure that the standards are maintained.
